I played netball back in school, and it was something I genuinely loved. Some of my best memories are from those days, spending hours shooting in the garden as a teenager and getting stuck into games and tournaments.

Fast forward about 24 years, and life looked very different. I was juggling a fast paced, high pressure role in a global tech company, and being a band mum meant lots of evenings and weekends driving my 15 year old to practices and competitions. I didn’t really have anything that was just for me anymore.

During a monthly catch up with the Director of Supply Chain Management, she mentioned she played netball and joined local social leagues. I told her how much I used to love the sport, and she challenged me to find a local league and report back in a month.

So, in April 2025, I joined a BLOOM netball league. I still remember that first game – playing GD, completely out of breath, but genuinely buzzing. I told her the next day and she laughed, saying the netball bug would get me. She wasn’t wrong.

Now I play in several leagues around Telford. I’m a bit of an all rounder, but I especially enjoy GA/GS — and I think I’ve still got a good shot on me!

A couple of great things have come from this:

– Alongside joining the gym, I’ve lost 6 stone since April, with 2 more to go before my 40th in October.

-I’ve made brilliant new friends. We’ve even planned our first social meet up outside of netball. They’re a fantastic group of girls and we always have a good laugh, whether we’re playing together or against each other.

If anyone’s thinking about joining a local club, honestly — don’t hesitate. Just go for it. It might be one of the best decisions you make!
